Hold your worms at your local post office?

If there are going to be extreme temperatures where you are, we strongly recommend having your worms held at your local post office. This will ensure that they are not left outside in the extreme heat or cold.

Description

When your food scraps pile up, don’t throw them out. Get yourself some red wigglers. They are only 1 -3 inches in length, and are about as thin as a pencil lead, but don’t call them little. When these guys group together, they become a voracious force, consuming anything in their path. Mountains of vegetable scraps wouldn’t stand a chance. The worms will break them one bite at a time. But don’t fear their powerful passion, encourage it. The food they consume gets digested, and transformed into some of the most nutritious material that lawns and gardens could grow in: worm castings! These worm castings are 7 times richer in phosphates, 5 times richer in nitrogen, and 11 times richer in potash than the average lawn soil. This valuable substance is a result of your trash! Don’t supply local trash heaps with your waste; give it to some red wiggler worm! By far, these guys are the best gardeners on the planet, and will only help out your lawn or garden or both! Decrease waste, decrease the need for earth-destroying chemical, and increase organic production all at the same time! These worms may be small, but provide a large service to saving the Earth!

Good worms

Worms are happy in my bin. There's no way of me knowing if all 5000 are there honestly... but I will just need to take your word for it!

The Good and the Okay

The package came in a timely manner and the worms were in good health. I am excited to start my worm bins. My only concern was that I was expecting adult worms and it appears that I got mostly adolescent worms, that, of course, will not begin to reproduce for some time. Overall, I am happy with the results.

5000 worms

The worms were delivered but they were a "flight" risk for 3 days. The box was crushed during transport by FEDEX and I got "angry" worms that tried to escape their perfectly prepared 12 gallon worm barrel for the first 3 days, regardless of the lamp that was placed above the barrel. I ended up putting the barrel in a large black 55 gallon trash bag with some moistened peat moss in it. The worms "escaped" the barrel into the trash bag. I emptied the trash bag back into the barrel every morning and night for 3 days. My children and I saved 1000 worms this way. Three weeks later, the worms are content in their abundance of food. We are preparing to split them into a second barrel.
